Service

One of Beta Theta Pi's core values is mutual assistance, serving others in the honorable labors and aspirations of life. The strong emphasis on service is a primary reason why many men choose to join the fraternity at John Carroll. While some members elect to take part in already-established service opportunities at JCU, such as the Labre Project, many brothers also take an interest in one of the domestic or international immersion experiences offered through the university.

The chapter has assumed a leadership role on campus by sponsoring Through the Eyes of a Child, a Christmas-time favorite for 100+ area elementary-age children. Additionally, we have developed a number of relationships with local organizations and events. We are proud of our association with these agencies and are grateful for the opportunity to work with them.

  • American Red Cross
Beta takes part annually in northeastern Ohio's largest blood drive hosted by the American Red Cross. Held at nearby Landerhaven, we have nearly a 100% volunteerism rate, greeting blood donors and assisting the Red Cross staff with assorted duties. Some brothers even roll up their sleeves to donate themselves.
  • Parma Adult Activities Center
The chapter has also developed a relationship with the Parma Adult Activities Center, just one location operated by the Cuyahoga County Board of Developmental Disabilities. Occasionally throughout the year, adults with mental and developmental disabilities come to campus to play sports like kickball or soccer, or even sit down for a round of bingo.
  • American Cancer Society Relay For Life
Brothers participate annually in the American Cancer Society Relay For Life hosted at John Carroll in late April. We aim to raise $1,000 each year in the fight against cancer through on-site activities as well as soliciting friends and family. Many Betas act as volunteers at fundraisers throughout the year or with set-up and take-down during the actual event.
  • Milestones Autism Organization
As we continue this special partnership, brothers assist Milestones with its major events (like the Autism Walk, Consortium for Autism Professionals, or Comedy Event) as well as interacting with teenagers from YouthAbility who have autism. Milestones also offers educational training on autism to the members of our chapter.
